The Work of Edward & Mary Williamson

Thank you to local author, Alan Daugherty for his presentation about E. B. and Mary Williamson and how they put Bluffton and Wells County on the map. E.B. Williamson became an expert on dragonflies and worked to develop more than 80 iris flower varieties. The recently published book on “Edward Bruce Williamson and Bluffton History” is available from Alan or the Wells County Historical Museum.

Pictured above is an example of “Wabash” the 1940 American Dykes Medal winner which was developed by Mary Williamson in 1936, wife of E.B. Williamson.

Here are some examples believed to be Williamson’s iris.

The book, “Edward Bruce Williamson and Bluffton History” is available from author, Alan Daugherty. He may be reached at: daughertyag@gmail.com or 260-824 8454. The book is also available at the Wells County Historical Museum, open on Sundays and Wednesdays, 1:00 – 4:00pm.
