Opening Day to Celebrate 100 Years of Smith Garage and Trucking

The Wells County Historical Museum begins its 2026 season with open museum hours of 1:00 – 4:00 pm on Sundays and Wednesdays, April – October. (See adjusted schedule for Mothers Day, Fathers Day, Independence Day weekend and Labor Day Weekend.)

A new exhibit in the museum features Smith Garage & Trucking of Poneto as the family business begins to celebrate their 100th anniversary in 2026. The display tells the story of the trucking company and the family members that have been a part of the successfull business. Visitors are invited to stop by the museum on Sunday, April 12, 1-4 pm for a reception honoring the business and to greet the members of the Howard Smith family.
