The Dubois County Historical Museum is one of the largest county museums in Indiana. It is located in the former home of Kimball Piano and Organ Company which had their corporate headquarters in the city of Jasper, the county seat of Dubois County. The county is named after Toussaint Dubois a Frenchman who fought in the American Revolutionary War, the Battle of Tippecanoe and the War of 1812. Dubois worked as a merchant and lived in Vincennes, Indiana.

The museum features many different things including several large wall murals that illustrate the various townships and small towns of the county. The city of Jasper is located on the banks of the Potoka River and has a population of 16,400 people. The county has a population of 43,614.

The murals show some of the early buildings and structures.

Thought to be the last grand piano made be Kimball International (originally Kimball Piano & Organ Co.). Kimball stopped making pianos in 1996 – to focus on contract furniture and cabinets.

The museum features over 50,000 square feet of exhibit and meeting space and it highlights the local German heritage, industrial development, rural life, including a 1855 log cabin and a 17-room Main Street exhibit

The museum features some open space to accommodate large groups for meals and events.

A 1918 USA Liberty Truck owned by the Army used during World War I. After the war 10,000 of these trucks were surplused out to cities and towns and some were sold.

If you visit the museum in Jasper, Indiana you should also plan a visit to the St. Joseph Catholic Church. This historic Romanesque-style church was completed in 1880 and is noted for its 235 foot tower.

The inside is very beautiful. In December of 2022 a19-month interior restoration and renovation was completed. The church is on the National Register of Historic Places.
