Happy 100th, Bluffton Post Office

Happy 100th Anniversary to the Bluffton Post Office. On this date, June 18, 1925 the Bluffton Post Office held an Open House for the public to view their newly completed building. The prime location was purchased for $11,500 and construction costs totaled $55,000 for the one story federal building with a basement.

Prior to the Postal Reorganization Act in 1970, the postal seal actually featured a horse and rider – a carryover from the earliest days of mail delivery by horse.

Here is what the Bluffton Evening Banner wrote about the new post office building, “A structure that the city can be proud of until that day when business expansion will call for larger quarters. It stands out prominently at the southeast corner of Main and Washington streets. It is simple, but pleasing to the eye and of such architecture that it will not tire.” Through the years, additions have been added and changes made to the interior to make it more functional. However, the outside main part, has remained the same.
